New NAIC Travel Insurance Model Act

  • The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) approved a new Travel Insurance Model Act, which classifies “emergency evacuation” and “repatriation” as insurance coverage.
  • Several states have adopted by statute. It’s anticipated that as many as half the states may adopt by the end of 2020.
  • Many medical evacuation plans in the marketplace are membership/subscription programs, not true insurance.
